Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” Expected To Become Her 4th #1
The first single from Spears’ forthcoming ninth album storms the survey at No. 16 with 4,071 plays, the highest detections total by a debuting title in the chart’s 18-year history. mp3
‘Hold It Against Me’ also ties Madonna’s ‘Frozen’ (No. 16, March 7, 1998) for second-highest launch in the list’s archives. Only Mariah Carey’s ‘Dreamlover’ began at a higher rank, having rocketed in at No. 12 the week of Aug. 14, 1993.”
That’s no small feat, but if “Hold It Against Me” does indeed debut at #1 on the Hot 100—Billboard says all will officially be revealed in two days—it will become her fourth chart-topper, following “…Baby One More Time” (1999), “Womanizer” (2008) and “3″ (2009).
She’ll then be tied with her onetime Mickey Mouse Club co-star Christina Aguilera, who also has four #1s: “Genie In A Bottle” (1999), “What A Girl Wants” (1999), “Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)” (2000) and “Lady Marmalade” (2001).
This would mark the fourth time a lead single from a Britney Spears album has topped the chart.
“Hold It Against Me” would likewise become songwriter/producer (and longtime Britney collaborator) Max Martin’s 10th chart-topping U.S. single, following Spears’ “…Baby One More Time” and “3,” NSYNC’s “It’s Gonna Be Me,” Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl,” “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream,” Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You,” and Pink’s “So What” and “Raise Your Glass.”
