The steamy adaptation of E.L. James’ bestselling novel made an estimated $30.2 million yesterday—which puts it comfortably in the  $70-$80 million range, with the potential to jump up to $90 depending on Valentine’s Day sales, according to Box Office Mojo.

That’s roughly triple the estimated gross of the number two film, Kingsmen: The Secret Service,  which earned approximately $10.5 million Friday. Fifty Shades’ Friday opening also makes it the fourth-highest grossing R-rated opening of all time, after The Matrix Reloaded, The Hangover Part II, and this year’s first record opening, American Sniper.

Rounding out the top of the Friday box office estimates are The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water with $6.5 million, American Sniper (3.81 million for a grand total of $291.5 million so far), and Jupiter Ascending, which continues to underperform with approximately $2 million in tickets sold, bringing its total to $25 million

'12 Years A Slave' Menang Filem Terbaik Oscar Ke-86

12 Years A Slave

Gravity memenangi anugerah Suntingan Filem Terbaik, Sinematografi Terbaik, Adunan Bunyi Terbaik, Suntingan Bunyi Terbaik, Visual Terbaik, Skor Muzik Terbaik dan Pengarahan Terbaik.

Sebab Filem The Journey berjaya kutip hampir RM13 juta?

'The Journey' Filem Terlaris Malaysia!

The Journey

Final 'Potter' film offers magical conclusion

Final 'Potter' film offers magical conclusion

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2" picks up immediately where the preceding part left off, and from there we are thrust into a fast-paced sendoff to the most successful film series of all time.

The omissions of points from the novel are glaring, as is the case with every "Potter" movie. In fact, "Part 2" clocks in as the shortest of the film entries at 130 minutes. We don't see enough of our favorite characters, and anyone who doesn't belong to the Church of Rowling will have a hard time grasping the significance of some of the more intricate plot details. more
