Scotty McCreery won the American Idol 2011
LOS ANGELES (AP): Scotty McCreery won the American Idol battle of the fresh-faced country crooners Wednesday against Lauren Alaina.
A record 122 million-plus votes were received for the finale. "I never in my wildest dreams," said McCreery, a 17-year-old with a strikingly deep, old-soul voice that contrasts with his youth. "I've got to thank the Lord first ... he got me here."
McCreery and Alaina, 16, represent the first all-country finale and the youngest duo ever to compete on Idol, which is in its 10th season.
The exuberant, big-voiced Alaina performed on Tuesday's final sing-off despite a vocal cord injury that needed medical treatment. She received raves from the judges, who said she won the night.
But the consistently popular McCreery, who'd never been at risk of elimination, claimed the title and a record contract. The teenager seemed overwhelmed as he took the stage for a celebratory version of I Love You This Big, halting to embrace his parents in the audience, Alaina and others. more

American Idol Finale: Lauren Alaina vs Scotty McCreery
Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery will face off next week in the final round of "American Idol" after Haley Reinhart was eliminated Thursday night.
Next week's finale will be an all-teen, country-tinged southern affair, as the 17-year-old crooner Scotty McCreery and the pop-country diva Alaina face off to see who will be the next to take the title of "American Idol" in the wildly popular show's 10th season finale next week. This finale will be the youngest in "American Idol" history.
"This is the biggest platform anybody can ask for, and I rocked it out. And I had a blast … And this is only the beginning," said 20-year-old Reinhart after it was revealed that she received the fewest votes on Thursday night's show.
As a final song, Reinhart sang Elton John's "Bennie and the Jets" laced with her signature growls.
During Thursday's broadcast Ryan Seacrest also revealed that an astonishing 95 million viewer votes were cast on Wednesday – up 15 million more from the same night during 2010. more

‘American Idol’ 2011: The final three perform
It’s officially “American Idol” top three performance night, also known as Judge’s Choose a Song night. In the past, that particular practice has been hugely helpful to those who don’t want to wait until finale week to know who’s going to win. Just see who the judges award with a good song, as opposed to a sleepy tune that no one’s ever heard of.
Of course, everything’s different this year, because the judges have positive things to say about everyone, all the time. So it’s a bit more difficult to see through their motives. The judges stroll out on to the stage. Randy Jackson looks like he’s about to teach a college class, Jennifer Lopez is decked out in a super sparkly minidress, and Steven Tyler is wearing more leopard print than usual for the occasion.
Host Ryan Seacrest announces right up front that for the next two hours (the show was stretched from 90 minutes), the Top 3 — Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina and Haley Reinhart — will each sing three songs. In the background, we see an audience member holding a colorful sign that says “THANK U FORD,” presumably referring to “Idol’s” sponsor. We find this deeply suspicious. more
