American Idol 2014 Result: Say Goodbye to Majesty Rose & Ben Briley

Majesty Rose Eliminated From 'American Idol' 13

On last night's American Idol Majesty Rose was eliminated after receiving the fewest votes from viewers at home. The Goldsboro, North Carolina native had made it into the top ten of American Idol Season Thirteen, but her rendition of “Shake It Out” by English indie rock band Florence and the Machine on this week’s performance show, didn't impress enough viewers to prevent her elimination. (Nor did she give the judges any reason to use their precious save card to override the voters' decision.) Full article

'American Idol' recap: Ben Briley is sent packing

Briley had hoped his gamble would pay off, but it did not. You knew -- and he probably knew -- that the judges were unlikely to use their sole save on him, especially after Jennifer Lopez said she believed "America was responding to what they saw" on the previous night.

But the Tennessee-based singer shed his vest and sang "Stars" in his throaty-nasally way anyway. Then, looking pale, he received the official verdict, reluctantly delivered by Keith Urban.

"Ben, we love your voice. We've loved it since day one," Urban said. "But what we've got to see is artistic growth and we don't collectively feel we've necessarily seen that.… Unfortunately, we can't use our save for you tonight."

American Idol 2014 Result: Say Goodbye to MK Nobilette

Considering how badly MK Nobilette had stumbled during her performance of Pink's "Perfect" on "American Idol" this week – losing her grip on the melody and lyrics mid-song and never quite recovering – and the fact that she'd landed in the bottom three twice before, the outcome of Thursday night's results show was perfectly predictable: The voters sent her home.

For a moment there, after she'd consulted with Rickey Minor and the band, returned to her mark, and sung her final song, John Legend's "All of Me," it looked as if the judges might use their one save of the season to keep the San Francisco 20-year-old, "Idol's" first openly gay contestant, on the show. Jennifer Lopez seemed especially reluctant to let her go, gazing beseechingly at Harry Connick Jr.

Eventually, though, Connick leaned into the mic and delivered the bad news. A save "has to be unanimous, and it is not unanimous," he said. "It breaks our heart, but we have to say goodbye to you."  Read more

American Idol 2014 Result: Say Goodbye to Ben Briley

Briley missed out on this year’s top 10 and therefore, the annual summer tour. The bottom three featured two boys for the first time —  fan favorite Sam Woolf and a hatless Briley, along with a very brave Majesty Rose who tackled “Let it Go” from Frozen on this week’s cinema-themed night. Jennifer Lopez said the bottom three made sense to her based on their performances and only .07% separated Briley and Rose from the final elimination. EW talked to Briley right after his elimination about his new look and defending himself against the judges’ comments. read more

American Idol 2014 Result: Say Goodbye to Emily Piriz

On last week’s episode the top 12 performed songs that reminded them of home.  On the results show Emily Piriz was eliminated after she received the fewest of the more than 70 million votes. From Orlando, FL, the 18-year-old sang “Let’s Get Loud” on the “Home”-themed performance show. In addition, on the results show, AMERICAN IDOL Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips returned to the IDOL stage with his new single, “Raging Fire” and Irish rock band Kodaline performed their hit, “All I Want.”

American Idol 2014 Result: Say Goodbye to Kristen O'Connor

American Idol 2014
Someone had to be the first elimination among the Top 13 contestants on American Idol Season 13, and Kristen O'Connor was the first victim in the 2014 edition of the show.

"I think part of me was really expecting it tonight. I knew I needed a killer performance last night and I think it went well, but not as well as I would have hoped. I had that issue with my in-ear and I feel like that took away from what I really wanted to give, and so I knew that because I was a wildcard, America hadn't voted me in the first time. I felt like I really needed to blow everyone away, and I felt like because that didn't happen, I knew there was a good chance [I'd get sent home]. So when they called my name I just wanted to give the best performance I possibly give."

O'Connor, who also had a chance to sing a "Save Me" song, revealed what the judges said to her during the results show.

"They were all really encouraging. Harry gave me a hug and told me, 'Kristen, the way that you just handled that shows me that you are a contender and you are going to just keep going. You deserve to be doing this.' And Jennifer Lopez was crying. She basically said she was sad to see me go and to keep on. And Keith Urban said 'I want to tell you to keep going, but I don't think I even need to, because I know that you are a musician and this is what you deserve to do.'"

Were you surprised by O'Connor's elimination, or did the audience get it right?
