American Idol 2014 Result: Say Goodbye to MK Nobilette

Considering how badly MK Nobilette had stumbled during her performance of Pink's "Perfect" on "American Idol" this week – losing her grip on the melody and lyrics mid-song and never quite recovering – and the fact that she'd landed in the bottom three twice before, the outcome of Thursday night's results show was perfectly predictable: The voters sent her home.

For a moment there, after she'd consulted with Rickey Minor and the band, returned to her mark, and sung her final song, John Legend's "All of Me," it looked as if the judges might use their one save of the season to keep the San Francisco 20-year-old, "Idol's" first openly gay contestant, on the show. Jennifer Lopez seemed especially reluctant to let her go, gazing beseechingly at Harry Connick Jr.

Eventually, though, Connick leaned into the mic and delivered the bad news. A save "has to be unanimous, and it is not unanimous," he said. "It breaks our heart, but we have to say goodbye to you."  Read more

Rolling Stones scrap show after L'Wren Scott death

The Rolling Stones on Tuesday canceled the first date on their Australian tour after the death of fashion designer L'Wren Scott, Mick Jagger's girlfriend.

The designer, whose company was heavily in debt, was found dead in her New York apartment Monday in an apparent suicide.

Concert organizer Frontier Touring said Tuesday that a Stones show scheduled for Wednesday in Perth, Western Australia, would not go ahead. There was no immediate word on future dates on the tour, including a Saturday concert in Adelaide.

The Stones are scheduled to tour Australian and New Zealand, then play a string of European dates starting in June.

Scott was found dead in her Manhattan apartment at 10 a.m. Monday by an assistant; police said no note was found and there was no sign of foul play. Scott was found kneeling with a scarf wrapped around her neck that had been tied to the handle of a French door, police said.

Jagger's representative said the singer was "completely shocked and devastated by the news" of Scott's death.

BREAKING (3:05pm): Salient points from the Prime Minister's statement given at the press conference:
1. New data shows last confirmed location was Saturday, 8 March at 8.11AM which indicate how far the plane has flown.
2. Based on new satellite communication data, we can say with a high degree of certainty that the Aircraft Communications, Addressing and Reporting System or ACARS, was disabled just before the aircraft reached the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
3. Shortly aftewards, near the border between Malaysia and Vietnamese air traffic control, the aircraft transponder was switched off.
4. From this point onwards, the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s primary radar showed that an aircraft, believed to be (but not confirmed to be) MH370, did indeed turn back.
5. It then flew back over Peninsular Malaysia, before turning northwest into the Straits of Malacca, up until the point at which it left military primary radar coverage.
6. The PM also said that plane movement was consistent with "deliberate action" by someone on the plane.
7. There will be refocused investigation into the crew and passengers on board.
8. Despite news reports that investigators concluded it was a hijacking, PM Najib said "I wish to be very clear we are still investigating all possibilities as to what caused MH370 to deviate from its original flight path." Hijacking is not ruled out, however.
9. Based on the direction in which the plane flew, the plane could have headed in one of two possible corridors:
- Northern corridor: border of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan to Northern Thailand.
- Southern corridor: From Indonesia to Southern Indian Ocean.
9. Operations in the South China Sea will be ended and deployment of assets will be reassessed.
10. Malaysia Airlines is informing families of the passengers of the new developments.
